Primary Purpose:
Responsible for providing content-area expertise through collaborative lesson planning with teachers, leading/facilitating professional learning communities, and conducting coaching cycles. The Coach will assist in the supervision and development of teachers by offering professional development, modeling teaching, data analysis, and training to improve student success. The Coach will assist the Director of C&I and principals in the development of short and long-range plans for the enhancement of the educational needs of all student populations. The Coach will work with teachers to provide collaborative and one-on-one instructional coaching and will facilitate teacher inquiry to assist in closing the achievement gap. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ abilities to provide first-line instruction that builds students’ skills, is academically rigorous, addresses the curriculum standards and enhances students’ engagement and ownership of their learning.

   

 

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required

Master’s degree preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate 

GT training/certificate preferred

 

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience

Successful classroom management that facilitates a high level of student engagement

Experience working with at-risk students and/or Title I campus

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Experience with interpreting and disseminating data (Required)

Proven results in STAAR-tested area

Strong knowledge of curriculum design and instruction

Knowledge of District’s instructional initiatives

Skill in instructional coaching and in supporting teachers with a variety of background and experiences

Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Ability to work well with diverse populations

Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness

Ability to interpret data

Knowledge of curriculum and technology used in the instructional setting

Ability to develop and deliver staff development

Ability to plan and provide prescriptive instruction aligned to campus goals

Ability to positively impact systematic change within the district in accordance with district goals

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Provides intensive instruction to struggling students. Such instruction may be provided either within or outside the classroom.

2. Focuses on professional development for teachers by providing them with additional support needed to implement various instructional programs and practices. The candidate must provide essential leadership for the campuses’ reading programs by helping create and supervise a long-term staff development program that supports teachers.

3. Plans and conducts periodic evaluations to assess the need for changes.

4. Manage communication between the campus administrator(s), teachers, and the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Department.

5. Meet with teachers on assigned campuses to discuss how they will address the instructional delivery of TEKS Guidelines.

6. Observe classroom instruction on a regular basis for teachers on campuses assigned; provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.

7. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in the classroom for teachers identified as needing assistance through modeling techniques.

8. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instructional program effectiveness for the assigned subject area.

9. Present content-related data to teachers/administrators.

10. Assist teachers in the development of create assessments.

11. Assist teachers in the development of highly qualified instruction that engages all students.

12. Work with teachers to develop and implement effective intervention strategies and programs.

13. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to make instructional decisions based on what is best for students.

14. Provide support/mentoring/trainings for  teachers and campus administrators.

15. Assist teachers and staff in improving student performance on State Assessments by assisting teachers in disaggregating and interpreting data.

16. Support classroom instruction through modeling and mentoring.

17. Gather and analyzes data for assigned subject area.

18. Meet to plan collaboratively with grade-level teachers.

19. Attend professional development as appropriate and required.

20. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

21. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

22. Assist teachers with the development and implementation of lesson plans and activities through distance or virtual learning to fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum, program and show written evidence of preparation, as required.

23. Assist teachers with the preparation of lessons in instructional formats that accommodate differences in individual student needs.

24. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distance or virtual learning that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

25.  The superintendent or his/her designee may assign other duties and accountabilities.
